Aside from having enough of the 3 B's (Beans, bullets and Band-aids) needed to weather most temporary disruptions in my home I have means of getting out of dodge in a hurry.
Whether you call it a B.O.B (Bug Out Bag) or a G.O.O.D pack (Get Out Of Dodge) it means the same thing. Its a quality backpack that has all your essentials already packed and ready to go. Simply throw it into your car and your ready to split town.
Inside this pack you should have these things:
Many fire starting methods like lighters, matches, magnesium block etc
Water purification methods. Filters, purification tablets, iodine, etc
Shelter. A tent or tarp of some sort
Sleeping bag and hopefully a ground mat.
Extra clothes. Especially socks. Good quality wool socks. A change of boots or shoes.
Food. The best for this are MRE's. If your good with camping then the standard load out of dehydrated foods and a camp stove could be used but weight and water requirements make this less desirable.
A good quality knife. A good knife will prove more useful than a firearm.
Now than you have your basic needs met the rest of what you pack it a personal choice. I wouldn't get too carried away with firearms since this bag is not a soldiers bag but a survival bag. The bag should not weight so much that you can not carry it while on foot. The whole ideal of the bag is to have a lightweight bag that you can quickly rely on to fulfill your basic needs if you have to leave quickly and possibly on foot.
An Alice pack will due but even better would be a quality multi-day camping pack. I personally stay away from the loud neon colors many of these come in. Be sure to ask for help from someone who knows how these bags should properly fit. Thats very important.
Thats all for now.
